My 2002 Savage has only 300 miles so I'm no authority on the drive belt, but time will certainly 'wear out' a rubber belt. Probably very tiny cracks will form first as rubber ages and some resiliency will be lost. I feel front to rear sprocket alignment is important and rear wheel adjustment marks may not be a true indication. A tiny misadjustment at the rear wheel marks will be magnified at the rear wheel sprocket. A accurate metal straight edge, like a carpenter's level, or if possible, a piece of string pulled tight across both sprockets would give true alignment. After this is ascertained, then check the rear wheel marks and see what they indicate.
